With digital devices becoming deeply integrated into daily life, various eye diseases are increasingly threatening modern eye health. The range of conditions is broad, from presbyopia and cataracts to glaucoma and retinal diseases, which can lead to blindness. Consequently, ophthalmology fields are becoming increasingly specialized, providing customized treatments for each patient.
SNU Cheong Eye Clinic has built a comprehensive medical system that addresses all types of eye diseases, offering personalized medical services. The clinic operates specialized clinics in the following areas, led by seven ophthalmologists who are former university hospital professors: Presbyopia and Cataract Clinic, Retina Clinic, Glaucoma Clinic, Dry Eye Clinic, Vision Correction Surgery Center, Eye Health Screening Center, and Pediatric Ophthalmology.
These specialized clinics collaborate organically when necessary to provide integrated care. The clinic has also introduced advanced equipment such as the nonmydriatic stereoscopic widefield fundus camera, electrophysiological testing devices, and the Humphrey visual field analyzer for glaucoma. These university hospital-grade special devices enable timely and precise diagnostic examinations tailored to each patient's needs.
SNU Cheong Eye Clinic has taken extensive measures to establish a safe operating room environment. The clinic currently operates four surgical rooms equipped with ultraviolet sterilization, EO (ethylene oxide) sterilization, sterilizers, uninterruptible power systems, and HEPA filter air purification systems to create an infectionfree environment. Additionally, the clinic is equipped with a general anesthesia system to facilitate complex surgeries and cases where local anesthesia is challenging.
The clinic also runs a comprehensive eye examination program that enables early diagnosis of conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. This program allows patients to receive everything from screenings and diagnosis to treatment and surgery all in one place.
Han Younggeun, the head of SNU Cheong Eye Clinic, stated, "Many eye diseases have no early symptoms, leading patients to seek medical help only after significant vision deterioration. Our one-stop process from examination to treatment aims to protect patients' eye health effectively."
