〈Dr. Jee Hee Son presented her real-world clinical anti-aging treatment strategy for rosacea patients.〉
An academic forum exploring the role of dermatologists and the appropriate direction for the development of aesthetic medicine amid its new paradigm was held.
The Korean Society for Anti-Aging Dermatology held its 16th Summer Academic Conference on the 28th at the Seoul Dragon City Hotel.
As demand for anti-aging procedures among rosacea patients has been rising recently, the need for customized treatment strategies for this group has grown accordingly. Rosacea is a skin condition characterized by facial redness along with erythema, papules, and pustules concentrated on the central face, including the nose and cheeks. Applying conventional anti-aging procedures directly to such patients can trigger redness, burning sensations, and worsening inflammation.
At the conference, Dr. Jee Hee Son of Fave Dermatology Clinic drew an enthusiastic response by presenting an anti-aging treatment strategy for rosacea patients based on her extensive clinical experience.
〈Dr. Jee Hee Son advised that for rosacea patients, it is safer to first induce recovery of the skin barrier and then gradually incorporate appropriate laser treatments.〉
Dr. Jee Hee Son: “The key isn’t simply reducing the number of procedures — it’s about fully considering the condition of the skin barrier and the degree of inflammation, and selectively applying only the stimulation that is truly necessary.” She explained that rather than using strong lasers or lifting procedures that can cause heat damage across the skin, the approach should first induce recovery of the skin barrier and then gradually incorporate appropriate laser treatments in stages.
Dr. Jee Hee Son: “In actual clinical practice, I use ivermectin cream for anti-inflammatory treatment, combined with wound dressings such as Hyacell and Hirasel to support skin barrier recovery. After that, I use skin-regenerating devices such as LDM to help stabilize the skin.”
Dr. Son also emphasized that injectable procedures such as fillers and skin boosters can actually be beneficial for rosacea patients.
Dr. Jee Hee Son: “Because injectable procedures allow selective treatment of only the necessary areas, they place relatively less burden in terms of inflammation compared to procedures that cause heat damage across the entire skin, and can be applied more safely even in patients with sensitive skin.”
